Conditions we treat
Down Syndrome
Early intervention through to life skills and supported independence.
Understanding Down Syndrome
Children with Down syndrome typically have low muscle tone, delayed motor and speech development and a characteristic learning profile with visual strengths and verbal short-term memory weaknesses.
Therapy leans on those visual strengths, uses sign and pictures early to support speech, and continues through adolescence with life and vocational skills.
Signs to look for
- Low muscle tone from infancy
- Delayed sitting, walking and speech
- Feeding and oral motor difficulties
- Unclear speech with better comprehension than expression
- Slower acquisition of academic skills
- Need for structured teaching of self-care
